$55.45m spot orders received at BATEXPO '08

Local garment manufacturers have received spot orders worth around US$ 55.45 million from international buyers at the three-day BATEXPO, the annual event of local apparel sector, which ended Saturday in the city.
The amount is $ 5.45 million higher compared with that of the previous year.
Chairman of the trade fair Engineer Salam Chowdhury told the FE that the size of the order was impressive. "The exact amount of sale orders will be known later."
Some 3,347 foreign and local buyers visited the three-day fair.
According BATEXPO convening committee, buyers from 22 countries visited the fair. They included the USA, Britain, Canada, Germany, Russia, Spain, Greece, Japan and Thailand.
One of the major features of the 19th BATEXPO was that it attracted new buyers from Mexico, Peru, Spain, Korea, Poland and Russia.
They showed their interest to buy garment items from Bangladesh.
Some 12 countries, including USA, India, China and Pakistan, also participated in the BATEXPO-2008.
Engineer Salam said buyers showed their interest in every item including accessories. They also showed increased interest in denim products, he said.
