0.30m new subscribers to get electricity

Some 0.30 million subscribers will get power connections in 21 districts under a new project involving Tk 8320 million. The project titled ‘Strengthening of power distribution system’ will cover 41 Upazilas of the districts in the country's southwestern region. Planning Minister A H M Mustafa Kamal said some 1,858 kilometers of power lines would be set up in 41 Upazilas under the project. ‘Additional 230 MW power would be needed to provide the new connection to the 0.30m subscribers,’ he added. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has already approved the project. West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDC) is entrusted to implement the project by June 2018. Of the total project cost of Tk 8320m, the government will provide Tk 7880m from the national exchequer while the organisation concerned will contribute Tk 440m from its own fund. The districts are Rajbari, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Shariatpur, Faridpur, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jessore, Satkhira, Narail, Jhenidah, Meherpur, Kushtia, Chuadanga, Magura, Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Patuakhali, Barguna and Bhola, according to BSS.
