Sunday, 14 December 2014

An infighting of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) left an activist dead and five others injured on Chittagong University (CU) campus on Sunday. The dead is Taposh Roy, a 2nd year student of the Sanskrit Department of CU. Police and campus sources said supporters of 2 rival factions of the university unit of BCL engaged in an altercation over establishing dominance on the campus at about 11:00am. As a sequel of the incident, the two groups again engaged in a brawl over the issue and at one stage attacked each others with lethal weapons, triggering a fierce clash. Both groups used firearms and sharp weapons during the hour-long clash. Six activists of the ruling party’s student wing were injured by bullets. They were rescued and whisked off to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where Taposh succumbed to his injuries around 1pm, according to a news agency.
