1 burnt to death in Gazipur fire

A minor boy was burnt to death in a fire in Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur district early Saturday. Police and locals said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a house at Bhannara on Friday night and soon engulfed several other adjoining houses at about 11:00pm. On information, several firefighting units rushed in but local people managed to douse the flame and recovered the charred body of the boy after more than one hour’s hectic efforts before the firefighters arrived. The deceased was identified as Mehedi Hasan, 8, son of Sadek Ali of Nagkathi village in Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram district. Witnesses said all but Mehedi managed to come out of the house as he was asleep inside during the fire incident. The minor boy used to live at the house with his mother Moyna Begum and grandmother, who work at a local garments factory. His mother and grandmother had gone out for work about 8:30 pm, they added, according to a news agency.
