1 Ctg jeweller killed, 13 receive bullets fired by robbers

Armed robbers fired and lobbed bombs at staff and employees of 2 jewelry shops in a busy Chittagong locality on Saturday night. Police quoting affected shop owners and witnesses, said around 8:30pm, a gang of 10 robbers tried to force their way into ‘Aparupa Jewellers’ and ‘Guinea Gold Jewellers’ in the DM market opposite the GPO building in the port city. At one stage, the bandits opened fire on the shop employees leaving at least 13 people injured. They also lobbed several bombs at shop employees and people who came to visit the market. The robbers decamped with booties after looting gold ornaments and cash money from the 2 shops. The 13 injured, all with bullets, were rescued and rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH). However, one of them died undergoing treatment early Sunday, said Kotwali Police Station OC Mohiuddin Selim. CMP ADC (South) Mizanur Rahman said raids were being conducted to arrest all bandits involved with Saturday’s daring robbery, according to a news agency.
