1 gets life for killing in Netrakona

A court in Netrakona has convicted a teen-aged boy, sentencing him to life term rigorous imprisonment (RI) in absentia for killing a man in 2006. The convict is Rupam Chandra Chakrabarty, 19, of Machehala village of Barahatta upazila of Netrakona district. The court also fined him Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer 5 years more RI. According to the prosecution, Kajal Chandra Sarkar, 35, of Machehala village, was hacked to death by the convict over a previous enmity on February 12, 2006. His elder brother Sajal Chandra Sarkar field a murder case accusing four people with Barhatta Police Station. The charge-sheet was submitted against the four accused on April 19, 2006. After examining records and 12 witnesses, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohamamd Abdul Hamid delivered the verdict on Thursday, acquitting three others as charges against them could not be proved, according to UNB.
