1 gets life for murder

A Sylhet court has sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing a man about 15 years ago. The court also fined the convict, Fajar Ali, 40, Tk 1,000, in default, to suffer two months more rigorous imprisonment. According to prosecution, Rifatullah, 80 of Basantaragaon village of Dakshin Surma upazila in Sylhet, was stabbed to death at one stage of altercation with his domestic help Fajar Ali over a trifling matter on April 7, 1999. Police arrested Fajar Ali with a knife from the spot. A murder case was filed. After examining the records and witnesses Metropolitan Sessions Judge of Sylhet Md Akbar Hossain Mridha handed down the verdict on Thursday afternoon, according to UNB.
