1 gets life for possessing illegal drugs

A tribunal in Rajshahi city has convicted a man and sentenced him to life term imprisonment for possessing illegal drugs. The convict was identified as Bairul Islam, son of Jashim Uddin of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district. The tribunal also fined the convict Tk 5,000, in default to suffer six months more of rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, police arrested Bairul along with 13 liters of Phensidyl syrup while he was going to Kansat Bazar with the illegal drug at about 9:15 pm on August 27, 2010. After examining records and witnesses, Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Shamsul Alam handed down the verdict on Thursday afternoon, according to UNB.
