1 held on gang rape in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, Mar 29 (UNB): Twelve days into the filing of a case on charge of gang raping a Hindu widow in Rampal upazila of the district, police on Sunday arrested one of the four accused from Fatullah in Narayanganj.
The arrestee was identified as Shamim Hasan alias Shamim (28), son of Zillur Sheikh of Baro Katakhali village in Rampal upazila in Bagerhat.
Tipped off, a joint team of Rampal thana and Fatullah thana conducted a drive in Fatullah area in the afternoon and arrested Shamim, said Md Iqbal Bahar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rampal thana.
However, three other accused still remain absconding.
Sub-inspector (SI) Abul Bashar, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said Shamim, during preliminary interrogation, confessed that he along with three other young men raped the widow.
