1 injured by bullet in city \\\'gun fires\\\'

A man was injured by bullet during a ‘shootout’ between police and a gang of armed muggers in Abdullahpur in the city’s Uttara on Monday. The injured was identified as Sabuj, 28. Uttara West police claimed that he is a mugger, sustained bullet injuries in police firing ensuing from a mugging incident in Abdullahpur Bandh (sluice gate) area. Inspector (Investigation) Ali Mahmud of Uttara West Police Station said a gang of muggers, equipped with arms and bomb attacked Raihan Mahmud, 21, a private university student, and snatched his money and mobile phone set around 4:30am. A patrol team of police in the nearby area rushed in as the muggers threw cocktails targeting the police team. At one stage, police also fired shots in retaliation, leaving Sabuj, a gangster, injured. Police said they detained two more muggers – Ramiz, 25, and Imran, 24, – from the spot. Sabuj was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, according to a news agency.
