1 killed, 10 injured in Gaibandha clash

A man was killed and 10 other people were injured in a clash between two rival groups at Mohipur Bazaar in Sadullapur upazila in Gaibandha district on Wednesday. The dead is Saharul Islam, 42, son of Babu Khandkar, a resident of Mohipur Bazaar. Police said there had been a longstanding conflict between Ramzan Ali and Ismail Hossain of Mohipur Bazaar over the possession of two bighas of land. On Wednesday afternoon, Ramzan accompanied by his supporters and equipped with lethal weapons, went to grab the disputed land. Hearing this, Ismail along with his men rushed to the spot and asked them to leave the land at once. At one stage, the two groups engaged in a bloody clash leaving 11 persons from both sides, including Saharul Islam, injured. Among them, critically injured Saharul died on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) and the rest were admitted to the RMCH and Palashbari Upazila Health Complex. Sub Inspector of Dhaperhat police investigation centre in Sadullapur upazila M. Zalal Uddin said being informed, a police team rushed in, controlled the situation and arrested six persons from the spot for their alleged involvement in the murder, according to a news agency.
