1 killed, 12 injured in AL-Jamaat clash

A local activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed and 13 other people were injured in a clash between Awami League (AL) supporters and them in Belkuchi upazila in Sirajganj district on Wednesday night. The dead is Alamgir Hossain, 35, son of Jamir Uddin of Chardhuligari village. Locals said a group of Jamaat activists had an altercation with some AL men over the results of the upazila polls at Chardhuligari village around 9:30pm. At one stage, they beat up an AL man. Later, the AL supporters gathered at the village around 10:30pm and launched an attack on the Jamaat men, triggering a clash. At one stage, both the groups, equipped with home-made arms, attacked one another, leaving Alamgir dead on the spot and 12 others injured on both sides injured. On information, police recovered the body on Thursday morning and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police also detained two AL men –Rubel, 25, son of Abdur Razzak of Baorabari village, and Amir Uddin, 26, son of Habibur Rahman of Char Darghaghra village in the upazila — from their houses for their alleged involvement in the clash, according to UNB.
