1 killed, 16 injured in Kishoreganj clash

A man was killed and 16 other people were injured in a clash over catching fish in a pond at Bajitpur Upazila of Kishoreganj district on Sunday afternoon. The dead is Layes Miah, 60. Police and locals said there was an enmity between Mohammad Jewel of Purangoan village and Baten over catching fish in the pond at the village. Baten and his associates went to the pond to catch fish and they were challenged by Mohammad Jewel, the owner of the water body. At one point, they engaged in an alteration and a clash ensued. The two groups attacked each others with firearms and other lethal weapons, leaving 17 injured on both sides. Three of them were injured by bullets. After the clash ended, the injured were rescued and whisked off to Johurul Medical College Hospital where doctor declared Layes dead. Sheikh Mostafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bajitpur Police Station, confirmed the incident, according to a news agency.
