1 killed, 2 injured in Khagrachhari gunfight

An unidentified man was killed and two other people were injured during a gun battle between two rival outfits at Manikchhari in the hill district of Khagrachhari on Friday. Locals said the gunfight took place between the activists of Santu Larma-led Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS) and anti-Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord outfit, the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), in the morning. At least one activist of one the CHT-based groups, was shot dead and two others were injured during the half-an-hour-long gun battle, they said. When contacted, officer-in-charge (OC) of Manikchhari Police Station Safiqul Islam said ‘On information, a police team has left the thana for the remote area where the reported gun battle took place today. Local people identified the injured as Shanti Chakma, 20, and Ananda Chakma, 30, according to a news agency.
