A pedestrian was shot dead and two other people were injured by bullets during a gunfight between two rival groups at Bakultala at Narsingdi town on Wednesday. The dead is Swapan Miah, 12, a transport worker. Police and local sources said Bhuiyan Sohel, a resident of Chowala of the district town, and Shafiqul, a resident of Bakultala of the town, had long been at loggerheads over establishing dominance in that part of the town. As a sequel to the enmity, Bhuiyan Sohel’s supporters, equipped with illegal firearms, bombs and sharp weapons, attacked Shafiqul’s house at Bakultala around 11:30 am. Attacked, Shafiqul, his family members and followers tried to resist the Bhuiyan Sohel’s men who fired gunshots at them, leaving Swapan, a passerby, dead on the spot and two people, including Shafiqul, injured. They were rushed to the Sadar Hospital, according to private TV channels.
