1 killed, 9 injured in Barisal clash

A man was killed and eight other people were injured in a clash between transport workers and passengers of a picnic bus over a trivial matter in Bakerganj upazila in Barisal district on Friday. The dead is Jasimuddin Hawladar, 30, the helper of a 'Shakura Paribahan' bus and son of Sekandar Hawladar of Ujirpur upazila. Witnesses said workers of 'Sugandha Paribahan' plying on Dhaka-Kuakata route and 'NK Travels' carrying picnickers engaged in an altercation over taking serial for boarding ferry at Bharpasha-Lebukhali Ferry Ghat on Barisal-Patuakhali route in the morning. Afterwards, the altercation turned into a clash between transporters workers and bus passengers, leaving nine people, including Jasim, injured. He was taken to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead at about 8am. Following the incident, police detained 20 passengers and staff of 'NK Travels', said sub-inspector Gazi Nazrul Islam of Bakerganj Police Station, according to UNB.
