1 killed in accident on Jamuna Bridge

An accident involving two tractors and a bus on Bangabandhu (Jamuna) Bridge early Friday led to tailbacks on both ends of Jamuna River. Locals and affected passengers said the situation normalised around 12noon. The driver of one of the tractors died after his vehicle was hit by a truck in the north lane on the Bridge. The victim was identified as Bisharat Ali, 40. The bridge traffic control room assistant manager Shamsul Haque said the accident took place a few minutes past Thursday midnight. ‘A Dhaka-bound tractor was dragging another broken tractor along the bridge. Dhaka-bound tractor’s driver Bisharat Ali died on the spot. As the two tractors approached north lane’s pillar No. 46, a truck rammed them and fled. Bisharat Ali died at the spot.’ The accident created traffic jam in Jamuna’s east and west banks causing sufferings to the passengers. The situation gradually turned normal once the damaged tractors were removed several hours after the accident, according to a news agency.
