1 killed in Fakirapool fire

A multistoried building at Fakirapool in Dhaka city caught fire early Monday killing one. The fire erupted at the building adjacent to Fakirapool Panir Tanki (overhead water reservoir) around 12:20am, fire service officials, quoting locals, said. Five people fell sick due to the smoke from the fire, police, firefighters and witnesses said. They were rescued and rushed to different hospitals and clinics. Among them Ebadat Fakir was declared dead by the doctor on arrival at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Ebadat, 45, was the security guard of the building – ‘Paramount Height’, located at Culvert Road. He was suffocated by the smoke, said the duty doctor at the DMCH. Being informed, 18 firefighting units from different fire stations in the city rushed to the spot and tamed the blaze around 3:00am. The origin of the fire or the extent of loss in terms of money caused by it could not be known, according to a news agency.
