1 killed in \\\'gun battle\\\'

A suspected robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel at Kaukhali Upazila in Pirojpur district on Friday evening. The dead is Nazir Ahmed Sabuj, 40, allegedly the ringleader of a pirates’ gang. Deputy commanding officer Major Adnan of Rab-8 said they had secret information that a group of bandits was taking preparations at the College field of the Upazila headquarters to commit robbery. Based on the information, a Rab team raided the College field around 6:45pm to arrest the gangsters. Sensing the presence of the elite force team, the goons opened fire on them, promoting Rab to fire back, triggering a ‘gun battle’. Sabuj was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, said Adnan. His accomplices, however, managed to flee, according to a news agency.
