1 killed in \\\'gunfight\\\'

A suspected criminal has died in an ‘encounter’ with police in Noakhali’s Begumganj. The deceased has been identified as Abul Bashar, 45, leader of gang going by his surname. The gun battle took place around 2am on Saturday in Jogikhali Pool. Police arrested Bashar on Friday morning, acting Superintendent of Police SM Ashrafuzzaman said. Based on his information, police raided Jogikhali Pool with Bashar in tow to recover arms early on Saturday. As they reached the area, Bashar’s associates opened fire on police provoking a retaliation. Bashar was shot dead during the gunfight. Police recovered one light gun and nine rounds of bullet from the spot. Bashar stood accused in 10 cases involving murder, abduction and extortion, Begumganj police OC Mostafizur Rahman said, according to bdnews24.com.
