1 killed in Kushtia rival attack

KUSHTIA: A man was killed and his son sustained injuries in an attack by rivals at Poradah village in Mirpur upazila Friday evening. The deceased was identified as Nurul Islam, 50, of the village.
Police and locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between two groups –- one led by local union parishad chairman Mosharraf and the other by Parvez -– over establishing supremacy in the area.  
Nurul, a supporter of chairman, came under attack by their rivals, including Parvez, Masud, Fazlu and Kabir, around 6:30pm on his way home along with his son Sajib, 25, from a local bazaar.The attackers chopped Nurul and his son Sajib with sharp weapons, leaving them injured critically, according to a news agency.
