1 killed in Magura \\\'gun battle\\\'

A man was shot dead in a 'gun battle' between ‘a gang of robbers’ and police at Mandartala in Magura Sadar upazila early Monday. The dead is Ujjwal Hossain, 37, son of Awal Hossain, a resident of Chanpur village of the upazila. Sadar Police Station assistant superintendent of police Sudarshan Kumar Roy claimed that the deceased was the member of a gang of robbers and he was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police on the Magura-Satruzitpur road. He said a robbers’ gang opened fire at a police patrol team around 1:00am. As the police retaliated, a gunfight took place between the two sides, leaving Ujjwal dead on the spot. He said three cops were also injured in the ‘gunfight’. The injured were taken to Sadar Hospital. A case was filed, according to a news agency.
