Friday, 21 March 2014

A man was killed in a “gunfight” with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) at Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar district on Thursday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Nur Mohamad, 45, a resident fo Pashim Leda village under the upazila. Rab-7 claimed that he was a ‘listed smuggler’. Acting on secret information, a team of Rab-7 raided Jaillayadiya shrimp enclosure. Sensing Rab presence, a gang of smugglers fired on the law enforcers prompting them to fire back, triggering a ‘shootout’. After the gun battle, Rab rescued bullet-hit Nur Mohamad and recovered a long-barrel gun, two bullets, a pistol and 3,000 yaba tablets from the spot. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the spot and admitted Nur Mohamad to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead in the evening, according to a news agency.
