1 shot dead, 50 injured during Rupganj, Kanchan polls

A man was shot dead and 50 other people were injured, many of them by bullets, in separate clashes between the activists of local unit of Awami League and BNP at Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj and Kanchan municipality on Saturday. OC of Rupganj Police Station and local people said an unidentified man was shot dead and 30 were injured, including 10 with bullets, during a gunfight between the supporters of the Awami League blessed mayoral candidate and the BNP-backed mayor aspirant during the municipality elections at a polling centre in Rupganj upazila in the morning. Rupganj unit AL leaders claimed that the deceased was their activist. Meanwhile, a clash between the supporters of two chairman candidates, loyal to AL and BNP, left over 20 people injured at another polling station during the vote to the Kanchan municipality around 10:30am. Voting at the two polling centres remained suspended following the clashes, police and locals said, according to private TV channels.
