1 to die, 7 get life for killing student

A Narsingdi court has convicted a man and sentenced him to death, and handed down life imprisonment to 7 others for killing a minor boy. District and Sessions Judge Fetama Nazib delivered the verdict on Tuesday afternoon, awarding capital punishment to Farid Miah, son of Ainuddin of Kahethargaon village under Monohardi upazila of the district. The 7 lifers are Mostafa Hossain, 45, Jakir Hossain, 20, Shiam, 18, Tohid Miah, 18, Sunaullah, 18, Dulal Miah, 25, and Joynal, 35. The lifers were also fined Tk5,000 each, in default, two more years' rigorous imprisonment (RI). The eight convicts killed Mafuz, a madrasa student of Monohardi upazila, according to a news agency.
