10 BCL men hurt in police action in Shariatpur

At least 10 local activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured in a clash with police in Shariatpur town on Thursday.
Police and locals said a group of BCL activists of Naria Government Degree College hired some motorcycles on Wednesday for joining a programme arranged by local Awami League, a news agency report said.
The BCL men had an altercation with the rented motorcycle riders over fair on the day. At one stage, the motorcycle riders beat up two BCL activists Shuvo and Shafique.
Over the Wednesday’s attack on the BCL men, a group of BCL men led by BCL leader Zahid Sikdar, beat up some motorcycle riders Thursday and later vandalised a bike and torched another.
When the BCL men blocked Shariatpur road and staged demonstrations protesting the incident police charge baton on them to bring the situation under control, leaving 10 people injured.
BCL leaders claimed that police charged baton on them out of misunderstanding.
