CHITTAGONG, Apr 30: 10 ward councillors of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) have decided not to attend the monthly general meeting tomorrow (Sunday) convened by the mayor outside the CCC office.
Tarek Solaiman Selim, ward councillor and local Awami League leader, said at a press conference today that they would not join the meeting at the disputed venue of Thandachari Resort under South Pahartali ward.
It was the first ever general meeting of the ward councillors convened outside the CCC office.
The resort land is yet to be owned by CCC since Baitush Sharaf, an Islamic organisation, has filed a case against the CCC claiming the land as their property. "Ownership of the land is still unresolved, so we are not going there," said Selim.
The councillors who were present at the conference included local leaders from the mayor's own party Awami League and BNP. The conference was attended by six male and four female councillors. There are 55 councilors including 14 women councillors.
