10 Cuet BCL men suspended

The authorities of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) have suspended for six months 10 activists of the university unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for their involvement in an internal clash on the campus. The activists of the ruling party’s student wing have also been expelled from their respective residential halls on the same charges. Six of the BCL men – Labon Dutta, Syed Tanvir, Abdullah Al Mamun, Ashraful Nayeem, Ovrajit Paul and Shahriar Mehedi – have been fined Tk 7,000 each while the four others – Moniruzzaman, Zakaria Nasim, Abdul Awal and Mobasherrul Islam – Tk 5,000 each. University sources said the disciplinary committee, headed by Cuet Vice Chancellor Jahangir Alam, took action against the BCL activists as per the recommendations of the enquiry committee formed to investigate the clash that took place between two rival factions of BCL on June 16 this year, according to UNB.
