10-day remand for Farabi

A Dhaka court placed on Tuesday Shafiur Rahman Farabi, the prime suspect in the writer-blogger Avijit Roy murder case, on a 10-day remand, reports UNB.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Rezaul Karim passed the order when inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police Mohammad Fazlur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court, seeking a 10-day remand.
Earlier on Monday, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Farabi from Jatrabari area in the city in connection with the gruesome killing of the blogger.
Later, he was handed over to the DB and shown arrested in the case filed by Avijit's father Prof Ajoy Roy with Shahbagh thana.
Farabi issued death threat to Avijit on social network Facebook on several occasions.
Earlier in 2013, Farabi was arrested in a case filed for issuing death threat to an Imam who conducted namaz-e-janaza for slain blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider.
However, Farabi got temporary bail from the High Court in the case.
Avijit Roy, son of former DU teacher Prof Ajay Roy and founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was killed and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya injured as unidentified criminals stabbed them near TSC on the Dhaka University campus Thursday night.
