The names of 10 Indian citizens, suspected to be members of Indian separatist group Ulfa, have been found on the voter list at village Chhoto Dhamai of Purba Juri Union-2 under Juri Upazila in Moulvibazar district, reports bdnews24.com.
Moulvibazar superintendent of police (special branch) Harunur Rashid revealed the information in a report submitted to the Election Commission (EC) on October 20.
Earlier, some 45,866 names or about 73 per cent of new voter applicants in Cox's Bazar were dropped from the latest voter list updated this year, as they were found foreign nationals, mostly Myanmar citizens, Rohingyas.
The Indian citizens have been identified as: Chaothoi Singha (voter no 0390), Nanao Debi (0250), Romi Singha (0363), Mannan Sharma (0119), Benu Singha (0194), Ulen Singha (0066), Shaileja (0071), Zaikaya Singha (0080) and Dhani Singha (0042).
Mr Rashid said: "All the 10 fake voters are Indian citizens. Their presence could not be ascertained during the field investigation. No one by those names is there at the addresses listed."
"The police suspect that the 10 were members of the United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa)", he added.
Upon a request from the police super of the district and additional district magistrate, the EC Secretariat Wednesday directed the officials concerned to look into the matter.
The secretariat has also sent a letter, signed by senior Assistant Secretary Israel Hossain, in this regard to the deputy election commissioner of Sylhet and election officials of Moulvibazar district.
