10 injured in attack over land dispute in Sylhet

SYLHET, May 30 (UNB): At least 10 people, including a housewife, were injured in an armed attack by rivals over land dispute at Mahmudabad Moglabazar village in South Surma Upazila Sunday. Locals said Ahmed Ali of the village had a long-standing feud with his neighbor Rehena Begum, wife of a Saudi Arabia expatriate, over the ownership of a piece of land. A gang of 1012 miscreants, led by Ahmed Ali equipped with lethal weapons stormed into Rehena's house and vandalized properties in the afternoon. The gangsters also looted valuables keeping the house inmates hostage at gunpoint. At one stage the thugs mercilessly beat the inmates, leaving Rehena, her mother Lila Begum, her nephew Afroz Mia, relative Shafique Mia and six others critically injured and decamped with booties. The injured were rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital. Locals said Ahmed Ali and his gang looted five tolas of gold ornaments, cash Tk 0.2 million and other valuables from the house. A case was filed in this connection.
