10 killed, 44 injured in separate road mishaps

SYLHET, Dec 27 (UNB): Ten people were killed and 44 others injured in separate road mishaps Monday and Tuesday.
In Sylhet, 5 people were killed and 14 others injured in separate road mishaps in Balaganj, Dakkhin Surma and Sadar upazilas Monday and Tuesday.
In Balaganj, a passenger bus ran over Hajera Begum (50), wife of Akhlus Mia of Rupapur village of the upazila at Goalbazar on Sylhet-Dhaka highway at about 12:30 pm Tuesday while she was crossing the road. She died on the spot.
In another incident in the upazila, Fahmida Begum Fahmi (8), daughter of Dilwar Ali, of Aditpur village, was crushed to death by a bus while crossing the road near her house at about 6:00 pm Monday.
In Dakkhin Surma, three people were killed when a bus rammed into an auto-rickshaw at Chandipul area Monday.
Witnesses said Sadek Ali along with his relative Rofu Mia was returning home from the Osmani Airport after saying goodbye to his elder brother. They were in the three-wheeler when the speedy bus dashed their vehicle killing them on the spot and injuring driver Enamul critically.
Enamul, later succumbed to his injuries at Osmani Medical College Hospital Tuesday.
In Sadar Upazila, 12 people were injured in a head-on collision between a microbus and a pickup van at Moglabazar on Sylhet-Fenchuganj highway Monday.
In Benapole, a meritorious student of a private university was killed in a road accident at Talsari here Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Riaz Mahmud Subho (22), a second year student of the pharmaceutical department of Asian University, Bangladesh and son of Mominuddin, senior teacher of Benapole High School.
Police said while Riaz was returning home from Jessore town in a motorbike early in the morning he suddenly lost control over the vehicle which plunged into a roadside ditch leaving him critically injured.
He died on way to a local hospital. The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Gazipur, four people were killed and 30 others injured in separate road mishaps on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Sadar Upazila Wednesday.
