10 of a family burnt in Uttara house

Ten people, including women and children, suffered burn injuries in an explosion caused by a gas leak from a cylinder at a house in the capital's Uttara area early Friday.
All the injured have been admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, hospital authorities said.
The injured were identified as Md Rubel, 28, his pregnant wife Sonia Akter, 25, their daughter Roja, 3, Sonia's elder sister Riya, 27, Rubel's cousin Md Enayet, 32, Enayet's wife Dulara Khatun, 28, their son Junayed, 13, Enayet's brother Md Habib, 30, Enayet's niece Ayesha, 19, and Abul Kalam Rubel, 35.
The explosion occurred early in the morning on the second floor of Abul Kalam's house in Kamarpur of Uttara, near Membarer Bari on Sector 10 graveyard road, reportedly due to a gas cylinder leak.
According to sources, the blast left ten members of the same extended family injured.
Rubel works as a motorcycle ride-share driver, while his cousin Enayet is an expatriate who recently returned from Dubai. Their ancestral home is in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district.
Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the burn institute, said the victims sustained varying degrees of burn injuries.
Sonia Akter suffered burns on 100 per cent of her body, while Rubel sustained burns on 32 per cent of his body. Enayet received burns on 45 per cent of his body, Riya 32 per cent, Junayed 24 per cent, Habib 19 per cent, Roja 18 per cent, Dulara 14 per cent, Ayesha 12 per cent, and Abul Kalam 7.0 per cent.
The physician said those with severe burn injuries have been admitted to the intensive care unit, while the others are undergoing treatment under close observation.
