10-point demand placed for welfare of garment workers

NARAYANGANJ, Apr 10 (BSS): Speakers at a conference here Friday put forward a 10-point charter of demands to the government to improve the lot of the garment workers and their working condition across the country.
The conference was organised by Bangladesh Garment Workers Trade Union Centre at Chashara Shaheed Minar.
Presided over by Sohel Khandokar, the conference was addressed, among others, by Advocate Montu Ghosh, Abdul Hye Sharif, Hafizul Islam, Iqbal Hossain and Dulal Saha.
National Committee for the Protection of Oil, Gas and Ports Engineer Sheikh Md Shahidullah inaugurated the conference. Earlier, a red flag rally was brought out marking the conference.
Advocate Montu Ghosh read out the 10-point demand which include fixing wages in consistence with the prices of essential commodities, introduction of rationing system, bringing down the prices of essential commodities to tolerable limit, cancellation of Labour Ordinance 2008, ensuring trade union rights and payment of salary and over time allowance within first seven days of the following month.
