10 saw mills sealed off in Mongla area

KHULNA, Apr 8: About ten saw mills have been closed and sealed off by the Forest Department and Coast Guard at Mongla area of Tuesday on charge of illegal establishment of mills and sawing of Sundari timber in the mills. The authority also filed cases against the mill owners in this regards.
Assistant Conservator of Forest of Chandpai range of Sundarban Belayet Hossain said that forest department and coast guard jointly conducted a drive on Tuesday against some dishonest saw mill traders who established saw mills within 10 miles of Sundarban violating the government rule and sawing various species of trees including Sundari tree. The authority also sealed up the mills and filed cases against the owners.
The mill owners are Lutfar Rahman of Matherpalter area, Nazrul Shaikh of Mitha Khali area, Moklesh, Rokon Gazi Al-Amin bridge area, Mohsin, Borhan of Mollarhat area, Abu Bakar and Musulli of Mongla area and Rasel Matubbar and Mahbub of Shawlabunia of Bagerhat district.
It may be mentioned that four saw mills were closed for the same reason at Charkona of Mongla area of March 24.
