10 suspected carjackers arrested in city

Police in simultaneous drives in the capital and its outskirts Keraniganj held 10 suspected car lifters and recovered 15 stolen motorcycles and two private cars from them, reports UNB. A team of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, led by Senior Assistant Com­missioner Moshiur Rahman conducted the drives in different areas of the city and Keraniganj from 7-30 pm on Monday to 5-00 am on Tuesday following hijacking of a private car from in front of Ananda Hotel in Keraniganj on October 19. A case was filed with capital's Paltan Police Station in this connection that day. The detectives conducted a drive in Atibazar area under Keraniganj Model thana and arrested three carjackers - Mohammad Ali (34), Md Mizanur Rahman (30), and Abdul Karim (22). The detectives recovered from them a private car which was stolen from Paltan. Later, the team raided city's Mohammadpur area and arrested carjacking ring leader Md Nahid, alias Dorbesh Nahid and his three associates identified as Rhidoy (19), Saiful (21), and Shakil. Following their statements, detective police recovered 15 stolen motorcycles and one private car from Moham­madpur and Keraniganj. DB officials said Nahid, Rhidoy and Saiful used some BRTA corrupt employees to make fake papers of stolen motorcycles and private cars. Following the information, the detectives arrested three brokers of BRTA - Ruman (29), Habib (42), and Shantu (30), on charge of making fake documents. Cases were filed with concerned police stations.
