100 hurt in clash with police near National Press Club

At least 100 people were injured in a clash between the Sommilito Peshajibi Parishad and police in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Sunday, as the 'all-out non-cooperation' programme called by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement was underway in the country, reports UNB.
The Peshajibi Parishad was staging a rally in front of the Press Club in favour of the 'non-cooperation'. Police, coming from the Supreme Court area, suddenly attacked them at around 12:35 pm, members of the Peshajibi Parishad said.
At one stage, the protesters took position in several alleys and got involved in chases and counter-chases with the police, leaving at least 100 people injured.
Later, the protesters set fire to tyres and other objects along with a police box on the street under the metro-rail station.
Meanwhile, some vehicles, parked at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital, were set ablaze during clashes between protesters and Awami League (AL) activists on Sunday morning.
Witnesses said several motorcycles and other vehicles, parked along the road in front of the hospital, were set on fire. Protesters alleged that those were set ablaze by ruling party activists.
Efforts to control the fire were hindered, as the Fire Service and Civil Defence vehicles were unable to reach the location promptly due to road blockades.
