100 hurt in Sunamganj clash

SUNAMGANJ, July 3 (UNB): More than 100 people, including women, were injured in a clash between two rival groups over land dispute at Rowli village in Chhatak Upazila Wednesday night.
Four of the injured Dilal (24), Ruvel (23), Joynal (28), and Majumal Begum (60) were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital in critical conditions.
The rest were undergoing treatment at different other hospitals, including Chhatak Upazila Health Complex.
Police and locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between former union parishad chairman M Abdul Khalik Miah and ex-UP member Akkel Ali over the ownership of a piece of land.
As a sequel to that, men of the two groups equipped with sharp weapons attacked each other at Rowli village around 9:00 pm, triggering a fierce clash.
During the fight, more than 100 people from both sides were injured.
Informed, police rushed to spot and brought the situation under control.
