1,000 slum families evicted in city

Wednesday, 12 September 2007

A drive to recover land of the Health Directorate in the city's so-called Seven-Storey Slum area at Mohakhali left about 1,000 families homeless Tuesday. The local people claimed that there were about 5,000 families in the slum area, but the magistrate said there were 700 to 800 families. He said a facility called "National Institute of Health Management" would be constructed on the land after eviction. The Saudi government will provide a grant of Tk 2.0 billion (200 crore) for the project, he added. —bdnews24.com
