Ten thousand orphan street children will soon get shelter in 'Ahsania Mission Children City' in phases. At present, there are about 1.3 million street children across the country, said a press release. Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) President Kazi Rafiqul Alam said this at a press conference organised by DAM at its auditorium in the city Monday ahead of the foundation laying ceremony of 'Ahsania Mission Children City' scheduled to be held in Panchagarh on April 21, 2011. Also present at the press conference were DAM Executive Director M Ehsanur Rahman, and former secretary and adviser of the mission Mohammad Lutfar Rahman Talukder. They replied to the queries of journalists present at the conference. The DAM president said that the hapless children would be imparted job-oriented technical education as well as skill development training through regular exercise, games and sports and cultural activities. There will be facilities for rearing poultry birds, livestock, pisciculture and crop cultivation. In this manner, the children will stand on their own feet and become self-reliant.
