In compliance with the Awami League (AL) election manifesto that pledged to implement Vision- 2021, the Ministry of Industries has taken up three fresh projects for implementation in the next five years, reports BSS.
The three projects - Self Employment and Poverty Alleviation (SEPA), modernisation of Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC) and BITAC Bogra centre - will be implemented by the BITAC with about Tk 600 million (60 crore).
The BITAC, an autonomous organisation, was established by the government in 1962 and since then it had been providing multidimensional training on various trades of technological know-how for producing skilled manpower.
Under the SEPA project, some 10,000 disadvantaged people, mostly women, will be turned into productive workforce by imparting vocational trainings on 12 trades, including light machine tools, RMG maintenance, general welding (refrigerator and air- conditioning) plastic processing, household appliance maintenance and other disciplines.
The first batch of 150 women has already been selected for training and classes for them have already commenced on August 2, Dr Ihsanul Karim, Project Director of the SEPA, told the news agency.
He said the key objective of the project is to develop hands on technical skills to help develop growth of the SME sector in light with the government's strategic plan of the massive industrialisation process in the country.
Explaining wide-range impact of the training on the social life of the trainees, Dr Karim said the women trainees will be given a three-month training on nine trades while males will get one-month training on three trades.
During the training at all four centres of the BITAC in Dhaka Chittagong, Chandpur and Khulna, he said each female trainee will receive Tk 500 and every male Tk 400 daily. After completion of the training, visits to industrial units for each batch will be arranged.
On the successful completion of the training, each women batch will be provided with training kits consistent with the training course, said the project director.
Besides, the BITAC project will incorporate modern technologies like Numerical Control Machine (CNCM) tools in substantially helping local and manufacturing industries and light engineering sector alongside state-owned manufacturing establishments such as jute mills, sugar mills and fertiliser factories.
