Wednesday, 25 September 2024

A court here on Tuesday exempted 102 leaders and activists of BNP, including its standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed from the charges in a case lodged under The Special Powers Act, 1974, reports BSS.
"Today was fixed for holding hearing on indictment in the case. We, however, pleaded to exempt the accused from the charges, saying there is no element to frame charges against their clients. After holding hearing on the plea, Dhaka 1st Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ibrahim Miah exempted the accused from the charges," defence counsel Jakir Hossain Jewel told the news agency.
The other prominent accused in the case are Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, Saiful Islam Nirob, Advocate Shimul Biswas, Advocate Joynul Abedin, Shafiul Bari Babu, Sultan Salauddin Tuku and Ishak Ali Sarker.
Police filed the case on January 30, 2018 for allegedly obstructing the law enforcing agencies to conduct their duties and vandalising vehicles. Charge-sheet was filed against 102 accused on January 28, 2020.
