108 nominations cancelled in 117 upazilas

 As many as 108 nomination papers out of total 1,852 were cancelled during the scrutiny on Tuesday in the 2nd phase polls to 117 upazila parishads billed for February 27. The returning officers concerned declared invalid 47 nomination papers of chairman aspirants, 44 of vice-chairman and 17 of reserved vice-chairman aspirants. With the cancellation of the nomination papers, the number of candidates in the upazilas came down at 1,744. Of them, 719 are chairman candidates while 638 vice-chairman candidates and 387 are reserved vice-chairman candidates. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature in the 117 upazila will expire on February 11. On January 23, the Election Commission announced the polls schedule for the 117 upazilas fixing the voting date for February 27, according to UNB.
