GAIBANDHA, Oct 18: A tenth grader applied engineering enthusiast in Gaibandha has fascinated locals and visitors by making a car-shaped vessel, which the admirers say when driven in the Brahmaputra River, appears as nothing short of a scene from a movie.
Rahad Mia -- a student of Science in Gunbhari High School in the district -- has moved onto create the vessel after building a fire fighting robot, a wall climber robot and other stunning projects.
The vessel can pick up a significantly modest speed and takes as much as two litres of fuel per hour, but it can accommodate five people. It also has a lighting system, along with an emergency signal and a loud siren. Local residents said that Rahad built the vessel by borrowing money as he is from a poor family. They also said if he is supported by government and private sectors, he can do a lot for the country.
Visitors from nearby villages have been flocking to see the vessel every day after seeing its picture on various social media platforms such as Facebook. Some opined that innovative vessels such as this could encourage the youth, while creating new avenues of rural communication including in the river and char areas.
Rahad Mia plans to drive the vessel in the river during the rainy season and he says he will modify it so that it can be driven on the road as well.
Fulchhari Upazila's Mujibar Rahman said, "The car is beautiful to look at."
