10th Parliament begins its journey

The much-talked-about 10th parliament began its journey at 6:06 pm Wednesday with Deputy Speaker Shawkat Ali in the chair.
The elected MPs of the ruling and opposition benches gathered in the House soon after Magrib prayers as they did not want to miss the first session of the new parliament.
President Abdul Hamid is scheduled to address the House on the first day of the first session of the new parliament, according to a news agency.
Meanwhile, Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was elected the Speaker of the 10th Parliament while Advocate Fazle Rabbi Mia, MP as Deputy Speaker.
Earlier, on January 13, the President summoned the maiden session of the new parliament exercising the power bestowed upon him as per article 72 (1) of the Constitution, according to the legislative support wing of the Parliament Secretariat.
