11 AL activists injured in BNP attack in Pirojpur

Eleven activists of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) were injured in an attack by supporters of Nazirpur Upazila unit BNP leader and Sriramkathi Union Parishad Chairman Motahar at Bhubankathi village in the upazila Friday night, reports UNB. Villagers said AL-backed Sriramkathi UP chairman candidate Malek Bepari along with his supporters went to one Jahangir Hossain's house to campaign for the upcoming election Friday night. They left the house at 9.00 pm. All on a sudden Motahar and his supporters, equipped with home made lethal weapons, swooped on them on Bhubankathi Bridge at about 9:10pm. They mercilessly beat the AL candidate and his supporters, leaving 11 injured, two of them seriously. Locals said all the injured are local AL activists and supporters of Malek. Seriously injured Rahman Sheikh, 45, and Tito, 28, were admitted to Nazirpur Hospital. Malek lodged a case with local thana Saturday morning accusing Motahar and his men for the attack. Police picked up Mamoon, 26, and Sabuj, 25, for their alleged involvement with the attack.
