In separate drives, Malaysian police on Wednesday rescued 11 Bangladeshi nationals and four Myanmar citizens, who were held captive for weeks by a local illegal trafficking syndicate for ransom. The Bangladeshis were rescued in police raids on two adjacent 15th floor flat units at Macallum Street Ghaut in George Town, according to Malaysian media. However, the identities of the victims could not be known yet. The syndicate was demanding ransom of up to RM 10,000 each from the families of the victims, the report said quoting Penang Deputy CID chief Asst Comm Nasir Salleh. The Bangladeshis looked weak and despondent when police rescued them after monitoring the place for several days following a tip-off. Four people, including a woman, were also arrested during the raid. They were watching over the victims, according to UNB.
