11 bodies floating in rivers

Corpses have been spotted downstream of Padma and Meghna rivers on Wednesday, two days after a launch sank near Mawa ferry Ghat in Munshiganj. Eleven bodies have been found floating in the rivers of Bhola, Chandpur, Shariatpur and Barisal in the morning. Munshiganj’s Deputy Commissioner Md Saiful Hasan said that four of the bodies have been identified and handed over to relatives. They are Fahad Akhand, 24, Mijanur Rahman, 35,  Jannat Nayeem Lucky, 20 and Rita Akter, 25. Meanwhile, locals at Kunder Char area of Shariyatpur’s Jajira Upazila, reported of spotting three more bodies, but the local administration is yet to confirm it. On Tuesday, two bodies were found at Chandpur’s Haimchar Union, one of which was sent to Madaripur for identification as the police suspected it to be that of a victim of ‘Pinak-6’, the overloaded launch that sank on Monday morning in Padma near Mawa Turning Point. Two bodies were recovered soon after the disaster, while police listed 169 missing people, based on complaints lodged by relatives until Tuesday evening, according to bdnews24.com.
