11 killed in Ctg, Mymensingh road mishaps

At least 11 people were killed, including six of a family, in two road accidents in Chattogram and Mymensingh on Tuesday.
In Chattogram at least seven people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Hathazari upazila. Three more people were also injured severely in the accident.
The accident took place on Chattogram-Khagrachhari highway near Charia Ijtema field of Hathazari upazila at around 12 noon.
The deceased were identified as Rita Das (40), her children Srabonti Das (18), Borsha Das (10), Dwip Das (3) and Diganta Das (3),  family members Bipolb Das (27) and Bappa Das (32).
Sources said the family hailing from Mohammadpur area of Chandaniash upazila of Chattogram was going to attend a programme in Fatikchhari upazila boarding a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
When they reached Ijtema ground of Chariya area, the auto-rickshaw tried to overtake a car.
At that time, a bus coming from Fatikchhari collided head on with the auto-rickshaw leaving seven people dead on the spot.
Three people were also injured severely who were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Station officer of Hathazari Fire Service Mohammed Shahjahan said, "On receiving information, a team rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. The team sent the injured to the hospital."
OC of Hathazari thana Md Moniruzzaman said, "Police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. The identity of the victims is yet to be known."
Medical officer of Hathazari Upazila Health Complex Dr Rashmi Chakma Chakma said, "The bodies of seven dead have been brought to the health complex. Three injured were also brought to the health complex. They had head injuries. After primary treatment, they were sent to CMCH."
BSS report from Mymensingh adds: At least four persons were killed and 20 others injured in a triangular collision among three vehicles near Shikarikanda area here early Tuesday.
Officer-in-Charge of Mymensingh Model Police Station Shah Kamal Akanda said the accident occurred around 12.30 am on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway when a bus hit a CNG-run three wheeler and a pickup van from behind while trying to overtake.
"The pickup van overturned beside the road and the bus rammed into a roadside divider after hitting it. Two persons died on the spot while two others died on their way to the hospital," he added.
Police and fire service members rescued the injured and sent them to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH). However, the police could not identify the victims immediately.
The bodies have been kept at the MMCH morgue for autopsy, the official said.
