11 more die of dengue

The health authorities in Bangladesh reported 11 deaths due to mosquito-borne dengue fever on Friday, taking the total fatalities to 1,460 this year.
Three of the new deaths were from Dhaka. As of November 10, Dhaka's total deaths climbed to 857, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Meanwhile, 1,333 more people were admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours until 8:00 am on Friday, including Dhaka's 298, said the DGHS in its daily update.
The ever-worsening dengue situation showed increasing numbers of cases in areas outside Dhaka. Of the new hospitalised cases, 1,035 were from outside Dhaka.
This year, the total dengue cases have so far risen to 288,572, including Dhaka's 102,889, according to the health directorate.
The fatalities and cases of hospitalisation due to the deadly Aedes-borne disease have been the highest in the last 23 years in the country.
Dengue appears to coincide with the rainy season from May to September and higher temperatures in Bangladesh, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
A total of 6,208 people are currently being treated countrywide in hospitals, including Dhaka's 1,589.
Of the total admitted, 280,904 patients made recovery and returned home, including 100,443 from Dhaka, with a 97 per cent recovery rate on average.
Last year, 281 people died due to dengue, the second highest in the history of the country.
